Annual fire servicing inspections are a legal requirement within most business premises under The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and is normally required for your insurance.
A fire extinguisher service involves inspecting every fire extinguisher on site and identifying extinguishers in need of discharge testing, replacement parts and recharging etc.
These checks are required due to parts / seals deteriorating, valves sticking and fire extinguishers simply being damaged whilst part of a building’s fixtures and fittings.
Not only are the 12 monthly fire extinguisher servicing inspections required but you should also be carrying out and logging weekly visual checks on all the fire extinguishers.
Fire extinguisher servicing and care in accordance with the Code of Practice stipulated in British Standard 5306 part 3 should be integrated into your premises Fire Risk Assessment and is, in effect, a legal requirement of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

There is a large misconception that a brand new fire extinguisher purchased can simply be installed into a business premises. Wrong, even brand new fire extinguishers MUST be commissioned serviced as described in British Standards 5306-3 Annex B,
taking into account the safety precautions given in Annex C.
